How to Plan and Develop Your Internet Marketing Campaign: The Basics

When you’re planning and developing an internet marketing campaign for your business, it helps to have a game plan of the steps you’ll take. As an internet marketing company ourselves, in this post we show you how to adopt the proper mindset about your campaign, plan it out, and develop it.

Test Your Front End and Back End

To start with, test your front end marketing. These are your squeeze page offers that acquire new leads and customers, such as an eBook, webinar, sample product, video series, etc. By testing these offers first, you’ll know what works best and won’t waste time developing campaigns for offers that don’t work well for your audience.

Next, you can build your back end campaign, including your automated email sequence and sales message, which could be a letter or video depending on your preference. It’s often a good idea to test different formats of sales message to see which works best for your business, too.

Develop Your Message

As a business, the internet is a means of developing a brand, and with it, a brand message. Your message is absolutely vital to the success of your internet marketing campaigns, as well as to position yourself properly in your market and attract the right customers that want your products.

The first steps to developing your message are to find out the emotional drivers of your target audience, and determine how you will differentiate yourself against the competition in your market.

To do this, begin by outlining what your product is. We’re going to use internet marketing services as an example. Next, outline your target audience and create profiles using this information. List their:

  • Age
  • Income
  • Location
  • Include a picture of what they may look like
  • For multiple target audiences, make separate profiles for each one for your own reference

Depending on your business, you may have only one target audience or several. Having a profile of each of these targets is a great way to keep your audience in mind when you’re developing your message and offers.

Once you have the profiles, outline the top desires of each target audience. For example, as an internet marketing company, top desires of our target audience include: ranking on page one in Google; increasing their visitors, leads, and sales; and increasing conversion. On top of these more obvious desires, they also have many other desires that relate, including achieving freedom and independence, step-by-step approaches, and guidance on technology.

Once you have all of this information, you have a solid foundation on which to build your brand message and appeal to the desires of your audience. Use this information to test various front and back end approaches to see what works best for your target audience. This way, your campaigns will build lasting relationships and not only generate leads, but keep customers coming back. Now you are well on your way to building a strong and effective internet marketing campaign!
